Bone Bloom (cremains shroud)

Commissioned for E. B. , made with silk fabric and piano shawls from the 1920s (the decade of her birth). Drawstring cord made from silk encased hair of her children that she had collected in the 1950s.

Letting the Light in

Commissioned for E. B.. Cyanotype on one side; exploding “Log Cabin” quilt on other. The pieced side was made with unbacked, unfaced silk charmeuse and linen. The charmeuse is slippery and lightweight, shifting with the weight and stiffness of the linen insets— it is the light breaking through the cracks.

Sporogenesis

A sowing of the beginning: an event horizon and a supernova, just the same as a cloud of spores and black decay.

Pattern references a traditional eight-pointed star quilt motif.
